The goats were good for milking this morning. Snowflake came right in and jumped up on the milking stand. When she was done, she went right out and Princess came right in. She needed a little push out the door so the ‘gate’ could be put up but Goldilocks actually got up on the stand without having to have her hindquarters lifted up. That’s about when the goodness ended. Goldilocks did NOT want to be milked. I milk her almost all the way out in the morning and because the kids take over and finish her up and don’t need what I milk out, I give that to the dogs. Scooter and Trista love it and because Goldilocks is getting medicine for internal parasites, I don’t want to put it in with the rest of the milk yet. Today was her last dose so in a couple more days, I’ll just put hers in with the rest. She gave almost a quart and that was after letting the kids suck several times yesterday. I’m going to have to start looking at cheese recipes.
Yesterday evening I played Phase 10
with Amena and Laura. Joanna joined us after the first round. The boys were all
watching (and I mean all the boys, including the little ones and the big one)
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang while we were playing. Almost half way through, Dan
called to talk to the children. The only one who will talk to him right now is
Cedric. He is now more than $2000 behind in child support (after I forgave
$8000 last year) and says he’s ‘saving up to come visit in November.’ Should we
be excited? Anyway, once that ordeal was over (and it didn’t last long because
Cedric was more interested in watching a movie than talking on the phone), it
wasn’t long before Joseph came in and asked if Laura or Joanna would make some
popcorn. When the hand we were on was over, I made some with butter and salt
and took it in for the boys. I made some with butter and a chili lime seasoning
that Paul got for me. We were not done with the game when the movie finished
but it kind of fizzled out because it was time to bring goats in and other fun
things of that nature.
After all children had gone to bed,
Paul and I watched a movie called The Way Back. I don’t believe it is what you
would call a ‘true’ story but it was inspired by real events. It follows a
Polish man who was accused of spying during WWWII and sent to Siberia. He and
several men escape and make their way south. One of them freezes to death
within days of escape because he has night blindness but the rest of them make
it out of Siberia. They are headed south in hopes of making it to Mongolia.
Along the way they pick up a girl. Most of them do not want her along but she
keeps following and once they find some food, one of them goes back to get her
and she stays with them. Once they reach Mongolia, they discover it is under
Communist rule as well so they hope to make it to Tibet and possibly even
India. Once the reach Tibet, the American who is with them decides to go to a
US military post within reach of where they are. At this point, there are only
three others and they manage to make it to India. The Polish man keeps walking
through the years until after 1980 when Poland is free of Communistic rule when
he goes back to his house and there is reunited with the wife who had been
tortured into signing papers saying he was a spy. He knew he had to get back to
her to let her know that he understood why she had done what she did because he
knew that she would never forgive herself. Pretty good movie.
Right now Joanna is eating hot
Italian sausage with eggs and potatoes. She is leaving in about an hour for
girl’s camp. Amena is writing a list, something she is very good at, for
something. Laura is looking at Masters Phase 10 cards. Seth and Joseph are
upstairs in their room. They are supposed to be cleaning but it isn’t too
likely they are given the amount and type of noise coming from that direction.
I think Cedric might be up there as well since I see his bicycle out under the
tree. Paul is getting his lunch together for work and the canines are both
napping on the floor. Pretty exciting around here at the moment.
Time for me to be off and doing. I hope you all have a splendiferous day.
